2. How do we dispute a charge back?

Charge backs are processed through the customer's credit card issuer and are held against your merchant account. EPSSecurenet is not a payment processor, we are a gateway provider, and are not part of the charge back process.  As such, our system would not contain any data or have knowledge of charge backs against your merchant account.

Since we are not part of this process, you need to contact your merchant provider in order to find out what you can do to dispute a charge back against your account.

3. Is there a way to calculate & apply sales tax based on the customer’s state & local county sales tax rate?

Yes. To have EPSsecurenet auotmatically set shipping and Tax charges you need to using the SecureCart Method. You also need to setup your shipping information in the Product Database Area, and setup the Tax information in the Gateway Setup Area.

Tax will be applied to all products in the Product Database, and is applied to all customers that set the shipping state to any state but the one you are in.
Shipping will be applied based on the customers delivery method selected and the location that is set as the shipping address.

4. What is a charge back?

A charge back is performed by a customer when the customer disputes a charge on their credit card statement.

If the charge is from your company and the customer has disputed it, the credit card issuer may return funds (taken directly from your merchant account) to settle the dispute with the customer.  You may also be hit with a charge back processing/penalty fee, if this happens.

You (the merchant) are notified via email, fax or letter after this happens.

We would not be aware of charge backs made against your account because the charge back process is handled separately from our system and is only between the customer's card issuing bank & your merchant bank processor.

To prevent charge backs, if a customer disputes a charge on their statement, you can make a return (to apply a credit to a customer's credit card after the transaction has been settled) with the cardholder.  If the transaction has not been settled, you may void the transaction.  This prevents the transaction from settling with the card-issuing bank.  In these cases, no charge backs may be applied if the transaction has been voided or if the funds have been returned to the cardholder.

5. What are the differences between the methods used to redirect the customer to after a transaction has been processed?

After a transaction has been completed the merchant can select how the  customer is transfered back to either the merchants web site or attempt the transaction again. Depending on the merchants connection method (ie. SecureCart, SecureDirect or SecureGate) the customer can go back to the merchants information form on the merchants website, or the customer can be sent back to the EPSsecurenet Hosted information form, which is usally what will happen.

All of these settings are customizable in the Gateway Setup area of the administration site.

If you wish for the customer to be re-directed back to original website after a transaction has been approved , and the merchant does NOT want to collect any of the transaction information you would select 'Link' as the return method.

If you wish to collect data from the transaction the merchant would select 'Post' as the return method and the customer would click on a submit button after an approved transaction to send a background POST of the information back to the merchant website.

For the POST method you can set the gateway to automatically POST back to the merchant website after the transaction has been processed by setting 'Automatic POST ' to Yes. The automatic POST back occurs for approved AND denclined transactions.

16. What is the CVV2 Code?

Card Verification Value 2 (CVV2)

Is a three-digit number imprinted on the signature panel of Visa cards to help card-not-present merchants verify that the customer has a legitimate card in hand at the time of the order. The merchant asks the customer for the CVV2 code and then sends it to the card Issuer as part of the authorization request. The card Issuer checks the CVV2 code to determine its validity, then sends a CVV2 result back to the merchant along with the authorization. CVV2 is required on all Visa cards.

To protect CVV2 data from being compromised, Visa U.S.A. Inc. Operating Regulations prohibit merchants from keeping or storing CVV2 numbers once a transaction has been completed.

This is the three-digit number imprinted on the signature panel of Visa cards and a 4 digit number imprinted on the front of an American Express Card.
